Building Self-Help and Independence Skills at Kool Kidz Rowville

Self-help skills are an important skill to think about when raising children to become successful and independent adults.

While practicing small tasks like washing their own hands and feeding themselves, they are gaining more and more confidence as well as developing fine motor and gross motor skills.

At Kool Kidz Rowville we understand the importance of building self-help skills and we use every chance possible to encourage children to develop as much independence whenever possible.

Our program and routines at Kool Kidz Rowville have been designed to allow our children to have access to resources and furniture that enables them to take responsibility and show self-sufficiency. Turn taking at meal times and  cleaning up their dishes after eating is one task our children are continually mastering and building on. Finding their name tag at arrival time and choosing a place to hang up their bags is another important self-help skill that our children are practicing every day to support their agency and to provide decision making opportinties.

As they make meaningful decisions and choices about things which affect them at every age group, our children begin to see themselves as rich, competent, capabl

e learners, as valuable and valued citizens within our service and within the community.
