Roger and Karen

The approved providers & owners of Kool Kidz Coolaroo are husband and wife Roger & Karen. Like everyone, we work hard and always strive to do our best in life. For a very long time, our dream has been to open a high-quality childcare where all children are treated like our own and all parents welcomed as one big family. In order to make our dream a reality, we moved from Sydney to Melbourne and spent lots of time working with the Kool Kidz head office on the planning and construction of Kool Kidz Coolaroo.

“I am an educator with many years of experience in early childhood education. Many have asked why I chose to become an educator; I always tell my background growing up in a family of educators. My mother and grandmother are both highly respected teachers in the local community. They have always told me that “Educators are engineers for the human soul. It is one of the most rewarding careers in the world.” This quote left a strong impression in my mind from a very early age and ultimately led me to pursue a career in early childhood education.

As a childcare educator, I know the importance of choosing the right childcare for children. A high-quality childcare and kindergarten service plays a very important role in the development of the children’s cognitive, language and social skills. Being a parent myself, I can personally relate to how daunting it is for parents to send their children to childcare for the first time. Here at Kool Kidz, we are a family run service; our motto is from our family to your family. As a mum with a 2-year-old boy, I promise your child will become part of the Kool Kidz family from day one. – Karen Gu

Being a parent has given me a deep understanding of a child’s world and what brings out the very best in each and every child. Whilst caring and playing with my son, I have realised how important it is to paying attention and listening to children’s expression. Children feel most valued when they receive undivided attention from their carers.” – Roger Sun

Our vision at Kool Kidz Coolaroo is to become the most reputable childcare service in the local community. We want to help children become independent learners through quality care and educational programs delivered in a loving, caring and nurturing environment by a team of passionate educators.

I have six children of my own ranging from 1-12 years of age. I have found it very rewarding being able to come to work every day and having my children close by. I pride myself in providing families with the best experience possible. I believe that children are central to everything we do. I enjoy seeing their passion when they come to the centre daily and excited for what we have planned in the program. It’s so rewarding to see a child come into the centre as a baby and leave ready to go off to school.

In my spare time I enjoy spending quality time with my family and enjoying the simple things in life.

Thank you for entrusting your children with us at Kool Kidz Coolaroo. We can’t wait for you to come along on the journey with us that is forever developing into something wonderful and exciting.

Ocean Wonder's Incursion 🌊 🌊
The Kinder rooms had a visit from the Melbourne Museum and what an experience!

The MM facilitator brought in some amazing replicas of sea animals as well as real objects from the Museums Victoria collections.

The children had such a blast exploring and learning about different aspects of the sea and learning about extinct Megalodons!
They even got to see real fossils such as Megalodon teeth and a real tiger shark jaw. The children at Kool Kidz Coolaroo love it when the Museum visits as they always get in-depth information about what they are exploring - which makes their learning fun!

The children developed a respect for ocean life as they learned about shells, sharks, and ancient marine animals that lived millions of years ago.

The program featured:
• Some of the museum's favourite taxidermied animals from the Museums Victoria collection, including a green sea turtle and a seagull!
• Collection of objects such as a tiger shark jaw and a whale vertebra
• Real fossil specimens, such as a Megalodon tooth

Toward the end of the incursion, children had the opportunity to be a turtle and see how it felt to carry a turtle shell on their backs. The children loved the role play of being a turtle and waited patiently for their turn.

We look forward to our excursion soon to the Melbourne Museum! 😊

How amazing!!

❤️❤️❤️❤️

Dear families,

Thank you so much for signing up to Teeth On Wheels and for making their visit absolutely worth it once again!

On behalf of myself I wanted to give you a small rundown of the team from Teeth On Wheels:
Felipe, Natalia and Mek, – Teeth On Wheels should be super proud to have these guys part of the team. They honestly made this whole experience amazing, super fun and engaging for the children and helped them calm their nerves for their first dental visit ever. I also want to thank Rojina for helping me during my absence to get the last forms signed & my staff for being patient with pulling children out and in of their rooms. You’re all great! 😊

The children overcame their fears by the team showing their warmth, diverse personalities, calm nature and their supernatural patience. I would like to add that I am so proud of all the children that had their visit, they were super excited to head into the van and meet the team, as well as being ecstatic with joy to receive their very own Disney toothbrush. They were greeted by a dragon that had “human teeth” as an observation to show the children what procedures will be happening. The children started with introducing themselves, brushing the dragon’s teeth and as they started to build their confidence to sit on the chair, the dental professionals would explain to each child what they will be doing, and this made the process so much easier for them. The children shared giggles, cuddles and lots of laughter with their friends and the whole team that was part of this day. At the end of their visit, they got their own stickers and were handed toothbrushes as a thank you and reminder to keep brushing their teeth. I am always happy to have them visit us! They will come again on Wednesday for the remaining bookings that were made through the Teeth on Wheels link. Here is some snapshots of their visit 😊

All their dental reports from their visit, you will receive from the Teeth On Wheels team either via email or phone consult.

Please await second post for more photos.

Warm regards,
Educational Leader Nicole

The Kool Kidz service operates all year round, except public holidays being closed.

Kool Kidz adopts a holistic approach to the learning and development of children, with a play-based approach to learning. You can read more about our childcare philosophy.

Kool Kidz services support the inclusion of all children to participate in the programs that we offer. Services can access a range of supports to ensure that children’s needs can be met while attending a Kool Kidz.

Kool Kidz has a strong belief in the continuity of staff, meaning that we will endeavour to keep children with the same educators for as long as possible.

Kool Kidz has a roster of experienced and passionate staff who are well equipped and experienced in settling children; our team always acts first with kindness and compassion. For an unwell child, Kool Kidz has stringent policies in place to protect both the unwell child and the other children and educators in the service. Kool Kidz also has an orientation program to assist with settling children into the new environment; parents will have the opportunity to help settle their children into care during orientation and help their child foster a bond with their educator.

ACECQA (Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority) The National Quality Framework is Australia’s system for regulating early learning and school-age care, including legislation and national quality standards, sector profiles and data, and learning framework.

Cognitive development in early learning is best defined as how children think, explore and work things out. It is the development of knowledge, skills, problem solving and dispositions, which help children to think about and understand the world around them. Our team uses play to help the children learn new skills as this is a technique shown to work well with young children.

This is processed through Centrelink – you can apply online or over the phone.

The Child Care Subsidy (CCS) works on a sliding scale system, meaning that the more income your household generates, the less help you will receive from the CCS. Conversely, the less income that your household generates, the more benefits you are entitled to from the CCS. Contact your Kool Kidz service manager/ operator to determine how much of your child’s fees will be covered by CCS.

Many factors determine this. There is the general age used as the standard benchmark, but other factors, including the child’s emotional and intellectual development, should always be considered.

There are many ways to help develop communications skills. If you’re worried about your child’s development, a chat with your educator is a great start. We would also encourage any worried parent to consult with their chosen medical professions (GPO/Paediatrician etc.)

Reading and chatting with your child is a great way to foster learning of language and comprehension. Playing games focused on language use is also a fun way to grow these skills.

There are so many ways to research and many factors to consider when choosing. Using online platforms such as Toddle or Care for Kids can be a great place to start. Asking other parents about their experiences is also a great choice. We always recommend going into the centre, meeting the staff and doing a tour as an essential step in deciding.

We are an equal opportunity employer, meaning we encourage educators of all ages, gender and ethnicities to be part of our team. We use incursion days as a chance to educate our children about different cultures and continually foster an attitude of respect and kindness for all in our centres.

Our centre foster learning through play which means the children are kept active every day. We also have outdoor play ears in every centre, ensuring that our kids have a chance to run and play every day.

We encourage our kids to bond with their educators and their playmates, so they feel like our centre is an extension of their home every day.

Play-based learning offers children a fun way to discover their interests, abilities and limitations. It encourages imagination, investigation and exploration. It also provides them with a way to learn about social interactions and boundaries safely and in a fun way. By linking learning to play, we are helping foster a life long love of learning through positive associations.
