Kool Kidz Tarneit celebrate Australia Day

On Wednesday 25th of January, Kool Kidz Tarneit celebrated Australia Day. Australia day is held on the 26th of January each year. On Australia Day we come together as a nation to celebrate what’s great about Australia and being Australian. It’s the day to reflect on what we have achieved and what we can be proud of in our great nation. It’s the day for us to re-commit to making Australia an even better place for the future.

As Early Childhood Educators, it is our role to encourage children to show compassion for their fellow classmates, to enhance their awareness of friendship and guide their understandings of the world around them. On Australia day it is not so much about celebrating” Australia” but celebrating all the diverse cultures, nationalities, and religions that call Australia home. It’s about getting the children together for a game or teaching the national anthem or a new dance that’s funky and fun. It’s about bringing them together to explore their cultures and share information about their classmates.

At Kool Kidz Tarneit we celebrated Australia day by bringing the children together to create lovely Lamingtons that were eaten for afternoon tea. The children loved cutting up the sponges cakes, smothering them with chocolate and dipping them in the coconut.

Children also dressed up in their traditional wear, as well as Australia day T-Shirts.

The Butterflies Room celebrated by listening to the national anthem of Australia, Kenya, Spain, China and Italy. The children laughed when they heard the people singing. The Educators translated the words to the Italian and Kenyan anthem.

The Beetlebugs children created masterpieces using the fine motor skills to create dots on their Boomerangs.

Our Jitterbugs room practiced their dancing skills learning the “hokey Pokey” and “cotton eye joe “song. The children enjoyed watching Courtney dance with her baby belly. They also enjoy completing pasting with Australian brands. Children recognised Vegemite, SPC and Tim Tams.
