Arts & Crafts with Mrs L
The Kinder children at Kool Kidz Mill Park were excited to welcome Mrs L into their room on Tuesday 31st January 2017.
Mrs L is a retired secondary school teacher with a big passion for art and craft. Mrs L understands the significant benefits of art and craft for children in early childhood and saw on the day the children’s interest in making paper caterpillars and tube people which require a lot of cutting and pasting and colouring with textas. All of these skills develops a child’s fine motor skills, preparing them for their first year of primary school next year.
Mrs L really enjoyed being hands-on with the children and was delighted at how engaged they were with all of the activities she introduced to them with the educators in the room following on with these crafts once Mrs L had left the room.
Mrs L will be returning in the future to do some more Art and Craft activities with the children and this time in our other rooms across the centre.
Thank you Mrs L for your time and support to Kool Kidz Mill Park.
5 Benefits of Arts and Crafts:
Bilateral Coordination – Crafts such as colouring, drawing, cutting, all require your child to use both of their hands together. This skill is important in other areas of their lives as they continue to grow, such as writing, tying shoes, typing and so much more!
Fine Motor Coordination – In order to draw shapes, cut patterns, and handwriting, your child is required to use their fine motor coordination. These skills similarly translate to other areas of their lives, such as dressing, eating, and in the academic setting.
Self Regulation – Crafts that require drying require waiting! This is a great lesson for your child to demonstrate self-control and patience. Also, as always things might not go exactly as we hoped! Crafts are a great way to promote flexibility in your child. There is no right or wrong way in exploring one’s own creativity!
Self-esteem booster – Although we want to challenge our kids, it is also important to initially choose arts and crafts that are at your child’s skill level. Completing the crafts successfully will give them a great sense of accomplishment and pride. As you and your child begin to explore more crafts, you can add in more and more challenges
Bonding and fun – Your kids will love spending time with you and creating something together!
