Expert Staff You Can Trust

One of the ways we ensure every child is safe is by requiring every member of our team to undergo child safe training annually, with specialised programmes tailored to different roles within our centres.

During induction, all educators complete comprehensive child safe standards training, whilst our leadership team receives additional specialised training on incident management and reporting procedures.

Our robust training programme includes mandatory reporting requirements, ensuring that any concerns are addressed immediately and appropriately.

Every team member receives:

Annual Child Safe Standards training tailored to their role

We also enforce a rigorous screening process, ensuring that all contractors, incursion teams and other visitors (besides families) who enter our centres must have:

Valid Working with Children Check (verified every 6 months, renewed every 3 years)
Signed our comprehensive code of conduct
Understanding of all safety protocols
Background checks for staff, students, volunteers, and contractors

Safe Supervision and Secure Environments

Kool Kidz maintains staffing levels consistently above required ratios to ensure close care and vigilance. The requirement for ratios in Victoria is one educator to four children, but we always roster extra staff to ensure a safe and supportive environment. For 16 children, our centres typically have five educators rather than the minimum four, providing additional support and ensuring no child is ever left unattended.

Each Kool Kidz service has CCTV cameras to provide additional protection and clarity in the event of any incidents or allegations. These systems support transparency and provide records if ever needed, not to monitor staff, but to ensure accountability and safety.

Our purpose-designed bathroom facilities reflect our commitment to child safety. Children’s bathrooms feature privacy cubicles, frosted windows, and closed doors. Parents are not permitted inside these bathrooms, but adult bathrooms are equipped with nappy change tables available for use during pickup.

Kool Kidz maintains a strict mobile device policy across all our centres, ensuring no personal devices are kept on educators, teachers, or parents whilst in the centre. Clear photography guidelines are in place during tours and excursions to protect the privacy of all children, with families acknowledging these policies as part of the enrolment process.

Daily Safety Procedures

Each day begins and ends with comprehensive safety checklists conducted by dedicated staff. These include thorough yard checks for potential hazards, equipment inspections, and constant supervision assessments covering both rooms and outdoor areas.

Every day includes:

Morning safety checklists before children arrive
Continuous supervision assessments throughout the day
Equipment and environment inspections
End-of-day safety reviews and preparations

Every centre has an appointed child-safe advocate who ensures that safety and wellbeing policies are taken seriously and staff remain updated on any new developments. Regular risk assessments are conducted in every room, with a particular focus on maintaining children’s privacy and reviewing protocols in the event of incidents.

Empowering Children’s Voices

At Kool Kidz, we believe children’s voices are paramount in creating safe environments. Through child-centred programming approaches, educators listen carefully to what children communicate. By actively considering the child’s voice allows identification of concerning disclosures, with every disclosure taken seriously and appropriate follow-up action implemented.

Our programming reflects feedback from children, creating a culture where children feel heard and empowered. Educators are supported to actively listen and respond to children’s disclosures, fostering an environment where children feel seen and valued.

Ongoing Improvement and Community Support

Using Australian Early Development Census data, Kool Kidz identifies specific vulnerabilities within local communities and tailors support accordingly. This approach allows better utilisation of government funding to provide targeted professional development for staff and tailored support for children.
