While most kids are dreaming of colourfully wrapped presents and making grand wishes of what they’d like for Christmas this time of the year, the children at Kool Kids on Wellington have very different and special wishes for some furry friends instead.
Sharon, a volunteer from the Australian Animal Rescue, came to Kool Kidz on Wellington to collect the children’s first donation of $60. This money had been raised through the donation from parents for bottles of worm tonic, which is produced by our onsite worm farms.
Karen Gianelly, the Sustainability officer for the service said “The Onsite worm farms have offered a holistic approach to learning for our children. Sustainability is most meaningful for children when they can practice it and see it in action. It also teaches the children to be, belong and become amazing citizens and learn how help others.
Karen went on to say “We chose Australian Animal Rescue as a charity as we felt the children could relate to the care and love of animals and others. We believe it is essential that we teach our children from a very young age, the importance of caring for the indigenous environment we live in along with the animals and fauna that co depend on it.”
The service was also fortunate to gather canned dog food, bird seed and old blankets that were gratefully received by Sharon. She agreed they would all go a long way in helping their furry and feathery friends.
