Many Australians celebrate Halloween, which occurs annually on October 31. Typical festive Halloween activities include trick-treating, attending costume parties, decorating, carving pumpkins into jack-o’-lanterns, lighting bonfires, apple bobbing, visiting haunted house attractions, playing pranks, telling scary stories and watching horror films.
Every year at Kool Kidz we celebrate Halloween by holding a costume day on the 31st of October. This year, as well as the usual dress up day, each room incorporated the theme into activities and experiences to promote learning in all areas.
In the under 3’s we saw some fantastic art work in typical Halloween themed colours, construction of some pretty scary monsters out of recycled materials and even some group discussions about pumpkins and all things Halloween.
In the older kinder rooms there was a lot of discussion about Halloween and the origin of Halloween and what it means to the children. They also participated in many art and craft activities as well as dressing up every day!
It is always great to see the lengths that the staff and families go to for dress up days – and the children thoroughly enjoy them!
