Kool Kidz Tarneit Planning: Understanding The Cycle

Here at Kool Kidz Tarneit “every child matter”. We strive to provide children with opportunities for them to improve all aspects of their development within a learning environment that promotes a sense of belonging, being and becoming. Our Educational program and our practices support children’s learning and development through pedagogical practices that our Educators implement.

Kool Kidz Tarneit has its own Curriculum called the ‘Kool Beginnings Curriculum’(KBC) This curriculum in conjunction with the Early Years Learning Frameworks (EYLF) underpins how we cater and plan for children within the services, ensuring that we focus on all aspects of children’s learning and development.

The EYLF  3 main objectives are to ensure that all children have a sense of Belonging, Being, and Becoming. Belonging focuses on knowing where and with whom you belong – is integral to human existence. Children belong first to a family, a cultural group, a neighbourhood and a wider community. Belonging acknowledges children’s interdependence with others and the basis of relationships in defining identities. Being focuses on the present and them knowing themselves, building and maintaining relationships with others, engaging with life’s joys and complexities, and meeting challenges in everyday life. Becoming reflects this process of rapid and significant change that occurs in the early years as young children learn and grow. It emphasises learning to participate fully and actively in society. Combined with these objectives, the frameworks deliver 5 outcomes that are designed to capture the integrated and complex learning and development of all children. The outcomes are broad and observable. They acknowledge that children learn in a variety of ways and vary in their capabilities and pace of learning.

The Kool Beginnings Curriculum blocks support Educators to implement the Early Years Learning Frameworks. Through the use of the 11 Kool Beginnings blocks Educators are able to provide children with activities and experiences that both challenge and enhance their development. The blocks cover Numbers, Letters and words, rhythm and melodies, Active Healthy bodies, The World and the Environment, me, myself and I, Kidz Lab, my 5 senses, Art expressions, build it and Let’s pretend. These blocks combined with the learning Environment and the Early Years Learning Frameworks provide children with a holistic view of their education and development. It allows Educators to observe, plan, implement and evaluate all aspects of each child’s development.

When children join Kool Kidz Tarneit they go into a planning cycle. A minimum of one observation per month is made on each child both individually and in a group experience. These observations are then evaluated and are linked to the Early Years Learning Frameworks and the Kool Beginnings Curriculum. From there Educators plan and experience or set and objective area to focus on to either extend or enhance an area of development identified within the observation.

Once the observation has been taken and an activity or experience has been planned it will go on the rooms program. Within each room are 2 plans. One is a key play spaces plan which reflects the learning areas within the room environment. The second is a spontaneous plan which caters for spontaneous experiences that happen throughout the month. Through the use of the two plans Educators and Families are able to clearly see and link between observations and planning, ensuring that everything that is out in the environment is reflected on the plan for a specific purpose, whether it be for an individual child, a small group of children or the room as a whole.

Throughout the whole planning experience Kool Kidz Tarneit encourages feedback and input into the program from Families. Educators talk daily to Families about developmental milestones that may be getting close to being reached, their child’s interest, or events that their child may have experienced over the weekend, at the end of the day or while on holidays. Educators can then use this feedback to plan for the child and extend or enhance their knowledge and skills on a particular subject.

Here at Kool Kidz Tarneit we encourage each child to be who they want to be, we encourage them to look outside the box for ideas and problem solving and we most importantly guide and encourage children to get the most out of life. Because here at Kool Kidz Tarneit, Every Child Matters!!
