From the garden to the table

Our Kinder children have been working together and taking care of our herbs and vegetables that were planted when Ian (owner) parents were visiting last in January.

The children have been watering the garden beds every day and making sure that they are getting respected by their peers.

On Friday the 8th they were finally big enough to dig up. They children worked together to carefully pulled each carrot out of the garden.

The children then discussed and compared the carrots, looking at their size, shape, colour and length.

On Monday the 11th of July the kinder children were able to wash, and cook their carrots enjoying them as a side dish with their beef curry sausages, mash potatoes and broccoli.

The process of growing plants, vegetables, fruit and herbs reflects the Victorian Early Years Learning Framework outcome 2, Children become socially responsible and show respect for the environment. Children have been able to explore, infer, predict and hypothesise in order to develop an increased understanding of the interdependence between land, people, plants and animals.

The children are now waiting to see what they are able to enjoy next.
