Within our Pre-Kinder classroom dinosaurs have been a strong interest with all our children. Our educators extended on this interest with an experience that engaged the children with making dinosaur fossils. These dinosaur fossil are now emended into their natural play area within their classroom.

The word dinosaur comes from the Greek language and means ‘terrible lizard’ or “fearfully-great lizard”. The word was coined by English paleontologist Richard Owen in 1842.
The time period from 250 million years ago until around 65 million years ago is known as the Mesozoic Era. It is often referred to as the Age of the Dinosaurs because most dinosaurs developed and became extinct during this time.
It is believed that dinosaurs lived on Earth until around 65 million years ago when a mass extinction occurred.
- Flying reptiles called pterosaurs first appeared just after the dinosaurs, and then died out at the same time as the dinosaurs. The largest grew to the size of a small aeroplane. However, while they were close relatives, they were not true dinosaurs.
