Our little Authors and Illustrators at Kool Kidz Ravenhall

What a wonderful start we have had at Kool Kidz Ravenhall. We are so happy and proud with how settled the children are in our environment. It is really beautiful to walk down the once quiet corridors to now hearing laughter, singing and conversations.

Our highlight of the week is our 3-5 year old Butterflies room. This experience originated when our Kinder teacher read a story with a child. The child expressed their love for “reading” at home,  that our Kinder teacher had a lightbulb moment and offered an opportunity  for the child to be an author herself.

The next time the child was in, she reminded our Kinder teacher about “writing” and illustrating her own book. What was an experience for one child, developed into a small group activity. Other children joined in and based their books on their interests. One child illustrated a book all about Spiderman and another about flowers. A lot of the children asked if they could write in their books and so our Kinder teacher wrote script that the children could copy. What a wonderful way not only to extend on literacy, writing, fine motor and coordination skills, but also an opportunity for children to feel a sense of self-worth, achievement, belonging and building trust with their teacher.

We cannot wait to see where this leads them over the next few days or even weeks.
