On Friday, as the weather was miserable and we’d been stuck inside for long periods of time, our Sustainability Leader came up with an idea… BING!
Each room was given an empty box from our delivery of laundry supplies, the aim of the competition was to be as creative as possible, and have something to showcase by the end of the day.
When our Sustainability Leader approached me with this concept, I did not expect the quality that was delivered.
At the end of the day, the AP (Shveta) and I, walked into the rooms to see their creations…
Honeybees: Due to the children’s interest of cause and effect, the educators created a ball ramp. They cut several circular shapes on the top, and added a ramp for the balls to run down after being popped through the holes.
Beetlebugs: The children in Beetlebugs are quite engrossed in pretend/imaginative play at the moment, and so our educators created a boat.
Jitterbugs: It is quite evident that our Jitterbugs have loved going on Bear Hunts, so the educators decided on a Bear Cave that the children can also engage in imaginative and pretend play.
Butterflies / Kinder: The children have been quite creative using icy pole sticks and making their own creations. Therefore, the educators, along with the children made a house out of their box as well incorporating icy pole sticks.
The decision was EXTREMELY hard!
But after much consideration and thought, we awarded Jitterbugs. All rooms agreed that it was fun and we are planning to do a challenge every month. It’s a great way to role model the use of recycled materials and ‘thinking out of the box”. Next month we are looking at Bottles…
