Preston Kinder Room News August 2016

Another great week we have had, we engaged in different science experiences such as making colourful rain using shaving cream and food colouring. Children enjoyed the formation of colourful rain and the process was interesting to watch for them. Reggie, Jack and August asked if we could repeat the experiment again and again and they were all happily involved. Ekaterini, Ivana and Tiana also enjoyed mixing milk, food colouring and dish washing liquid. This was another exciting experience for children as they could observe the process. Children were very curious about colours could only mix up when dish washing was added.  This week children participated in a variety of rich and meaningful inquiry-based experiences, they developed a range of skills and processes such as problem solving, inquiry, experimentation, hypothesising, researching and investigating.

Focusing on our healthy and well being, we have engaged in different learning experiences. We made our fruit pizza and we all enjoyed it. We also engaged in outdoor experiences such as high jump, running races, sack racing, star jumps, hopscotch, soccer and bike riding as well as yoga. August Eli and Jack enjoyed high jumps the most.  Children take increasing responsibility for their own health and physical well being.

We discussed about our sustainability program, touching base on the importance of using compost bins and looking at what goes in the compost bin.

Children have reflected an on gong interest in shopping and we are planning to visit our local shopping centre. Ella, Thameika and Solaf have been writing and drawing beautiful pieces of art works and posting them in the letter box. We plan to engage in mail writing and post the letters on our adventure to the shops.

Health and well-being

As an extension on our health and well-being, this week we prepared our own afternoon tea. We made fruit pizza and we all enjoyed the whole process.  Children showed their activeness as confident and involved learners, they engaged, persevered and experienced the satisfaction of achievement as they all enjoyed the afternoon tea. Children were all happy and they asked if we could make the pizza again.
