As an ongoing project with the children this week we have been exploring art and creativity together. The children have experienced several different methods of creating artworks, we have experimented with different artistic materials such as paint, pencils, textas, pastels, and ink. We have also encouraged the children to investigate different ways to use the materials creatively, for example, panting with brushes, fingers, stamping with sponges, using a variety of textured fabrics and plastics instead of brushes to foster greater creativity and encourage the Jitterbugs to view art and creativity as an open ended and flexible activity which can reflect each child’s individuality.
Art experiences are an amazing way to incorporate many outcomes from the Kool Beginnings curriculum for children to achieve: Kidz Lab, Art Expression, My Five Senses, Let’s Pretend and Letters and Words.
The children also meet outcomes from the Early Years Learning Framework-Learning: Children develop dispositions for learning such as curiosity, co-operation, confidence, creativity, commitment, enthusiasm, persistence and imagination. Children develop a range of skills and processes such as problem solving, inquiry, experimentation, hypothesising, researching and investigating.
Communication: Children interact verbally and non-verbally with others for a range of purposes. Use language and representations from play, music and art to share and project meaning, use the creative arts such as drawing, painting, sculpture, drama, dance, movement, music and storytelling to express ideas and make meaning. We will continue to foster the children’s creative development by extending the activity throughout the coming weeks by including different materials and encouraging unhurried opportunities for discovery.
